While the Zinfandel vineyard is our primary focus, that is not all we do here at DAMAS. We have 100 olive trees ranging in age from about twenty to over forty years old. The olives are mostly Tuscan varietals that produce fabulous extra virgin olive oil, but we also have a couple of Kalamata trees for table olives. We have a mix of fruit and nut trees—walnuts, pomegranates, apricots, pears, figs and jujubes. We supply some of these crops seasonally to local restaurants, caterers and local consumers.
In addition to the permanent crops, we have an extensive garden that we use year-round. We love knowing where our food comes from and how it is grown. We also cooperate with local organizations such as Farms of Amador and Motherlode Harvest to educate consumers about the benefits of seasonal, locally grown produce and help improve access to it.
